Cultural Appropriation and Donkeys

The domestic donkey (Equus Africanus asinus) is a hoof mammal in the family Equidae. The African wild ass is the origin of the domestic donkey which originated from Africa. Appropriateness in popular culture

Oftentimes, we see cases in which a dominant culture takes elements from a minority group's culture. This practice, called cultural appropriation, could cause feelings of disrespect among minority group members. Many Black people feel this is a patronizing behaviour, whether wearing a Native American headdress to a music festival or wearing blackface for Halloween.

A dominant group may also adopt elements of minority cultures. However, they may also make use of intellectual property belonging to the minority group. This is possible through blackfishing, as an example. It is important to consider that people of colored skin have a history of being excluded and marginalized. For instance, if you see a person of color wearing a blackface Halloween costume take into consideration the history of black people being marginalized.
